Gothenburgian Seitanfoods
Gothenburgian Seitanfoods is a swedish business founded in 2010 by Nikolaos Pizanias.
”Nikolas” hails from the small city of Motala, by lake Vättern, in the central-south of Sweden.
He was born in 1979 and currently lives in Gothenburg on the west coast.
Nikolas has a varied background, but has a long story of environmentalism behind him.
As a 5 year-old, he smeared himself with crude tanker drift-oil on a beach in Greece,
and had to be washed and scrubbed with gasoline by his mother to get clean.
That was his first encounter with the major environmental assault, that our ecosystems are being subject to,and have been for decades.
As snorkeling and harpoon-fishing was the major interest of his father,
Nikolas also grew up in very close contact with the marine environment.
His father took him cleaning beaches in the Peleponnese of Greece, over as well as under the surface.
They dove and collected garbage from the bottom, and on the beach,
they collected anything from cigarette butts to car tyres and refrigerators.
This was mostly done not very much in accordance to the young Nikolas own will,
but he had to do it anyway, and that made a strong, though unconcious, impression on him
An impression of what a real, pure, nature should be, and what it should not.
Back in 2002, Niko recalls having awakened as an adult to the environmental problems,
and engaged him in various ways to do something, among other things volounteering for Greenpeace.
Over the period of 2003-2006, at the time living in Helsinki, Finland, Nikolas increasingly found interest in
the field of organic agriculture and vegan foods,
especially vegan alternatives, rich in protein, to animal meat.
He saw this as a powerful way of affecting the whole ecosystem in a positive direction
steering it away from harmful practices such as spraying various poisons on the food-producing soils, and monocultures.
Somewhere around 2005, Nikolas decided that his path, to do his share in helping the ecosystems
survive and remain healthy, would be in promoting, as an independent businessman, organic and biodynamic agriculture,
and strongly promoting vegan/vegetarian alternatives to animal meat, such as seitan and tofu.
Since the autumn of 2006, Nikolas has studied various subjects related to business economy,
logistics and food in the universities of Åland, Lund and Gothenburg.
The company is now up and running, with a modest start in Gothenburg and Stockholm.
He cooperates with his close friend Anders Hasselroth, who is responsible for the sales in the greater Stockholm area.
